What size hook should I use for saltwater fishing?
Match hook size to bait and target species. Common saltwater sizes: #4-2/0 for sheepshead and small-bait inshore (shrimp, fiddlers), 2/0-4/0 for redfish and trout (jig hooks, live mullet), 5/0-7/0 for cobia and king mackerel (live bait), 8/0-10/0 for offshore tuna and marlin. Use circle hooks for live-bait fishing where possible — they hook fish in the corner of the mouth, improving release survival.
