Q.Spawn Timing & Fishing

When do crappie spawn and where do they go?

A.

Crappie spawn at 58-65°F, typically a week or two before largemouth bass. They move into shallow brushy cover (laydowns, vegetation, dock pilings) in 2-6 feet of water and become extremely concentrated. The spawn period is one of the easiest times of year to catch crappie — limits come fast on minnows or jigs around shallow cover.

Pre-spawn crappie stage at the mouths of spawning coves. Post-spawn fish move slightly deeper to recovery cover. Spawn calendar pages cover crappie timing.
