Pigs & Poultry
What chicken breed is best for cold climates?
Heritage breeds with small combs and dense feathering tolerate cold best: Buckeye, Chantecler, Wyandotte, Buff Orpington, Plymouth Rock, Brahma. Avoid breeds with large single combs (Leghorns) in cold climates — frostbite is a real risk. Provide draft-free, dry shelter; chickens handle cold but not wet/drafty conditions.
