WMAs are managed primarily for wildlife and often have hunting-specific rules (drawing permits, shotgun-only zones, mandatory check-in stations). State forests are managed for multiple uses (timber, recreation, watershed) and typically follow general statewide hunting regulations without WMA-specific restrictions. Read both sets of rules — they vary state to state.
Both are public-access in most states with regular license, but WMAs may add layers like daily-permit lotteries, limited-entry hunts, or motorized vehicle restrictions. State forests usually allow general access without additional permits.
