Doe harvest is the deliberate removal of antlerless deer to balance sex ratios and control population. Wildlife biologists recommend it on most properties because it improves rut intensity (better sex ratio), reduces overpopulation pressure on habitat, and enables more mature bucks to develop.
Many hunters resist doe harvest, but on properties with skewed ratios it's the highest-leverage management decision available. Reducing doe numbers from 5 per buck to 2 per buck typically transforms rut intensity within a few seasons.
