Q.Inshore Migration Timing

When do bluefish arrive in the Northeast?

A.

Bluefish arrive in the Northeast in May-June as water temperatures hit 60-65°F, with the largest fish (often called "choppers" at 10+ lbs) arriving with the spring bunker run. They stay through summer and migrate south in October-November as water cools.

Bluefish push hard against bait pods and create surface-busting blitzes through summer and fall. They mix with striper schools during overlap periods, sometimes creating mixed-bag opportunities. Migration calendar pages cover bluefish timing.
