Use SST satellite imagery from Rutgers RUCOOL, NOAA, or commercial services to spot eddies. The edges of the eddy where temperature gradients are sharpest produce the most consistent fishing. SST threshold pages cover related species preferences.
SST & Offshore Fishing
How do I find warm core eddies for fishing?
Warm core eddies are circular pockets of warm water that pinch off from the Gulf Stream and drift westward into cooler shelf water. They create concentrated SST anomalies (5-10°F warmer than surrounding water) that hold tropical species long after the surrounding water has cooled.
