Sheep & Goats
What sheep breed is best for beginners?
Katahdin and Dorper hair sheep are the most popular beginner sheep breeds — they shed their wool naturally (no shearing required), are parasite-resistant, and produce excellent meat. Wool breeds (Suffolk, Hampshire) require shearing and more management. For meat-only operations, hair sheep are typically the easier path.
