Cover Crops
What cover crop is best for compaction relief?
Daikon (forage) radish is the standard for compaction relief — its tap root can grow 24-36 inches deep, drilling through compacted layers. Tillage radish dies back over winter, leaving channels that improve water infiltration. Sunn hemp and forage rape also help in summer windows. Pair radish with a nitrogen-fixer for a full mix.
